Dawsons Estate Agents in Swansea has just completed the physical fundraising challenge of hiking Snowdonia to raise money for its chosen charity for 2023.

Nominated by Gorseinon sales team manager, Matt Jones, after his grandfather suffered with the disease, the Motor Neuron Disease Association (MNDA) supports those fighting the condition, which currently affects around 5,000 UK adults.

A total of 13 team members took to the mountain and had to contend with rain, fog, and a rainbow before regrouping at the summit for a team photo.

Following their descent, they celebrated the event, which has raised over £4,000 to date, at the pub.

One team member, Kate Phillips, described it as “a once in a lifetime experience that I shall not be embarking on again’, but all with a smile on her face of course.

A team of estate agents in Leeds have raised more than £3,000 for Cancer Research UK after completing a gruelling cycling challenge that saw them pedal 2,300km in just five days.

Every member of HOP’s team completed at least six hours on one of four bikes outside the company’s Horsforth office, with the team clocking up 460km, or 286 miles, on each of the five days. This represented the 460 people that die from cancer every day in the UK.

Hop fundraising imageHOP surpassed its initial fundraising target of £2,300 and has raised more than £3,100 to date, with donations still coming in. The company also sold cakes baked by the HOP team, as well as their family and friends, which contributed £350 to the total amount raised.

Luke Gidney, managing director from HOP, said: “This was a tough challenge and especially on the days that it was windy and lashing it down with rain, but every single member of our team was happy to participate and help raise money for such a worthy cause.

“We had passers-by of all ages cheering us on and jumping on the bikes to help put the miles in and the team from Workhouse Fitness in Farsley were also welcome guests who were only too happy to add a few miles, which was absolutely brilliant, when our legs were getting pretty tired!”

This latest challenge follows the HOP team tackling the Yorkshire Three Peaks last year when they raised £3,698 for Ukraine Charity and Leeds Mind.

The team at Miles & Barr have been busy in their fundraising efforts for a local charity supporting homeless and vulnerable people, Porchlight.

Centred around World Homeless Day, which took place on October 10th, activities included a sleep out, bake sale and going purple for the day.

On Saturday, October 7th, colleagues across the company participated in the annual Sleep Out. By experiencing a night sleeping outside, staff gained a humbling understanding of the important work and mission of Porchlight.

The team in Broadstairs held a successful customer bake sale, selling cakes for both humans and dogs. With baked treats crafted by the team, colleagues in head office got in on the action and also hosted their own internal cake sale.

For the third consecutive year, Miles & Barr turned all offices Purple for Porchlight on World Homeless Day. From the window displays to staff, Purple became the colour of choice for Miles & Barr.

Michael Day fundraising imageAfter beginning a three-month challenge on July 1st, Michael Day has completed his one million steps challenge with a week to spare in support of Diabetes UK. His last challenge was the London Bridges Ten Mile Wellness Walk, which he embarked on with his daughter, Carrie, last month.

One million steps is the equivalent of around 500 miles and at one hundred steps per minute, Michael estimates that he has spent around 167 hours walking. That’s equivalent to seven, 24-hour days, during the period.

Michael’s aim was to get a little fitter as well as raise awareness of diabetes, which affects nearly five million people in the UK. Michael has been a type one diabetic for thirty five years and also successfully underwent triple heart bypass surgery in 2021.

More importantly, he wanted to raise £500 for the charity, but his efforts have raised over £3,000 so far and he is hoping that the final total will be even higher.

Michael said: “The one million step challenge has been amazing on so many different levels and I am proud of what I have achieved. I deliberately went very public about my plans as this ensured I stayed focused on the end goal. Like the best way of eating an elephant, I broke the one million steps down into bite size pieces and actually completed an average of just over 11,750 steps every day for eighty-five days.”

Michael’s fund raising continues until the end of October.

Conveyancing Foundation image

Since its inception in 2010, the Conveyancing Foundation has raised £1 million for charity.

This accomplishment is thanks to numerous fundraising events, industry challenges and the support of Conveyancing Legal Practices participating in the Conveyancing Foundation Charity Lotto.

To enter the Charity Lotto, clients make a £10 charity donation at the end of their property transaction for a chance to win the monthly prize draw of £500. Nearly 80% of clients take part in the Lotto, with the participating Conveyancing Legal Practice choosing which charity they would like their Lotto donations to be paid to.

Chairman, Lloyd Davies, commented: “This collective charity fundraising effort is amazing and it is truly heart-warming to see how our conveyancing community has come together to achieve this fantastic charity fundraising milestone. The impact of our collective contributions to various charitable causes is immeasurable and reflects the goodwill that defines the conveyancing profession.”

He added: “The industry fundraising challenges have been epic over the years, from the Matterhorn Challenge in 2015 to the most recent Earthquake Appeal this year, collectively the conveyancing industry raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity. Thank you all for your hard work, generosity and camaraderie.”

The Conveyancing Foundation Charity Grant Scheme also provides those working in the property industry with the opportunity to apply for Charity Grants of up to £2,000 to support their charity fundraising events. In 2023, grants have been awarded to Women in Residential Property, who hosted a cinema night to raise vital funds for ‘Ella’s’, and Aconveyancing, who orchestrated a thrilling “It’s a Knockout” event, with teams taking part in an inflatable obstacle course race to support the noble cause of “Samuel’s Promise”.

High-street estate agent, Wards, marked their 20th anniversary as hosts of the Children’s Awards by recognising nine remarkable winners.

The celebration of young people, families, and charities across Kent honours those who have triumphed over adversity, displayed exceptional courage, and made significant contributions to their communities.

This year, nine inspiring individuals were given awards including five-year-old Daisy Cherry-Matthews who received one of three Triumph Over Adversity accolades.

Despite being born with Apert Syndrome, Daisy has undergone eight surgeries while managing a learning disability, autism, and severe speech issues. Her remarkable journey to school last year radiated joy and courage, making her a true beacon of hope.

In the age 6-11 category, Ethan Wells was awarded for his extraordinary strength and bravery after a diagnosis of Severe Aplastic Anaemia. And 12-year-old Hallie Robb is now learning braille, crafting her own stories, and nurturing dreams of becoming a writer after being born visually impaired and battling Osteopetrosis.

Other awards included Young Fundraiser of the Year which went to nine-year-old Beth Creeden who raised £1,605 by completing a triathlon for Designability, and Exceptional Young Carer for nine-year-old Bonnie Louise Crouch who saved her mum’s life during a diabetes-related seizure.

The Puzzle charity and Roberts Family were recognised too.

Members of the Belvoir Group’s Central Office team put their best foot forward recently to successfully complete an epic charity walk, raising almost £2,000 in the process for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

The team, which consisted of 21 people, including senior directors from different brands within the Group, as well as apprentices and office staff, set off from the village of Croxton Kerrial to hike through the picturesque landscape of the Vale of Belvoir.

The team completed 11.5, 16 or 22 miles, with the final seven finishing after a determined battle through overgrown ferns and nettles.

The money raised also included a pledge of £150 from Agents Giving.

Speaking of the team’s success, Belvoir Group CEO, Dorian Gonsalves, said: “This was a fantastic achievement by everyone concerned. I am very proud of the team, who are delighted to have raised so much money, which will help contribute towards the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance Trust being able to continue its incredible lifesaving work. The charity receives no direct government funding, and I understand that £8m a year is required to keep the service operational, so all donations are very welcome.”

In addition to fundraising for charities in 2023, the Belvoir Group has a new project entitled 365 Days of Giving. This charity campaign encourages franchisees and team members from across the country to consider supporting local charities and community activities by volunteering their time.

A total of 266 days has been logged so far.
